Assistive Listening

Assistive listening is a free sound amplification system that utilises an FM signal. This system can be used in any seat in our main venues and is accessed using headphones or a neck-loop that can be used with a hearing aid. These devices are available, on request, from the venue ushers. You will be asked to leave a drivers licence, or similar identity card, for the duration of the loan. This system can also be used for guided tours and small meetings in our buildings.

Audio Description

Audio Description (AD) is a narration that provides detailed information and descriptions of the visual elements of a performance.

Tactile Tours

Tactile Tours allow audiences to feel key elements of a performance such as props, the set, and costumes. They are offered on select performances and take place prior to the show.

Auslan Interpreted

Auslan (Australian Sign Language) is used by the Deaf community in Australia. Auslan Interpretation is offered for select performances. To book seats near the interpreter, select 'Book tickets' on the event page and add the code AUSLAN into the promo code box. These seats are subject to availability.

Highly Visual

Some performances are highly visual, with little or no spoken word. Performances identified as Highly Visual do not need to be heard to be enjoyed.

Open Captioning

Captioning is available at selected performances. Captions are prepared from the script of the play by highly trained staff. During the performance, the captions are displayed on a screen, enabling the audience to read what is being said, without obstructing the performance. If the event is digital, open captions are part of the video and cannot be turned off.

Closed Captioning

Closed captions are available for digital events and are present on most of the digital content in Together With You. These captions can be turned on or off by the user.

Relaxed Performance

Relaxed Performances (RP) are for anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed environment. We focus on adapting the theatre environment and performance, as well as preparing the audience by developing pre-show resources.
